G’day Mate (Marilyn Monroe series)

Acrylic on canvas | 51cm (W) × 76cm (H) × 3.8cm (D) | Ready to hang

ARTWORK STORY // DESCRIPTION

G’day Mate brings a distinctly cheeky twist to the mythology of Hollywood glamour.

By placing Marilyn Monroe within a playful Australian frame of reference, the painting collapses

the distance between screen legend and everyday greeting. The contrast gives the familiar icon

a fresh sense of humour.

A casual Australian greeting sits delightfully at odds with the polished mythology of Hollywood.

That contrast is what gives the painting its humour. Marilyn is brought down from the distant

screen and placed in a more familiar, playful cultural setting.

The work does not reject glamour; it simply refuses to treat it too seriously. Its cheeky spirit

makes it an engaging addition to an entertaining area, contemporary apartment or collection of

pop-art portraits.

G’day Mate places a famously glamorous face beside an unmistakably casual Australian

greeting. The effect is playful and affectionate, bringing a distant Hollywood icon into the easy

rhythm of everyday conversation.

11 ART STUDIO | ORIGINAL ARTWORK COLLECTION

That contrast is the painting’s charm. It imagines a version of Marilyn who might laugh at

formality and join the room rather than remain untouchable on a screen. The work celebrates

humour, cultural reinvention and the freedom to see a familiar image differently.

An irreverent pop-art piece that sparks conversation.
