ARTWORK STORY // DESCRIPTION

Long strokes of sapphire and midnight blue cut diagonally across this canvas, interrupted by

flashes of coral and gold.

Beyond the Surface feels less like a view of water than the force moving beneath it. Fine lines

skate over broad sweeps of colour, creating depth, urgency and a sense that something is

always shifting just out of sight.

The diagonal movement gives the painting a powerful sense of direction, yet the finer trails

travel against that current. Deep blue creates the impression of hidden space, while the orange

and peach flashes arrive like sudden discoveries in the darkness. The surface feels alive with

competing forces.

Its appeal is not simply the contrast of warm and cool colours; it is the suggestion that the

visible world is only one layer of a larger story. The upright format makes a dramatic focal point

between windows or in a hallway.

The diagonal passages make the eye move quickly, yet the surrounding darkness asks it to slow
