Annuals

Acrylic on wood | 91cm (W) × 91cm (H) × 0.5cm (D) | Requires framing

ARTWORK STORY // DESCRIPTION

Annuals takes its cue from the flowers that return in new colours each season, familiar yet

never identical.

Repeated gestures and changing densities suggest growth, renewal and the quiet rhythm of the

garden. Rather than painting a botanical specimen, the work captures the feeling of abundance

taking shape.

The name evokes plants that return through cycles of flowering and renewal. Rather than

drawing individual petals, the painting approaches growth as a rhythm: marks gather, repeat

and change, recalling the way a garden is never exactly the same from one season to the next.

There is reassurance in that repetition, along with the surprise of new colour and form. The

artwork brings an organic sense of abundance into the home and can complement natural

materials, botanical accents and light-filled spaces.

Annual flowers are loved partly because they must be planted and enjoyed anew. That cycle

gives Annuals a subtle emotional undertone: beauty is not less meaningful because it changes.

The work’s repeating gestures suggest growth, abundance and the pleasure of seeing

something emerge.

There is a garden-like generosity in the composition, but the painting avoids becoming a

botanical illustration. Instead, it captures the rhythm of renewal. It can be read as a tribute to

colour, to seasons or simply to the joy of making space for new beginnings.

Its organic energy suits an interior that welcomes colour and the changing seasons.
